Blog 12: "Gone baby gone"

"Gone baby gone" is a dramatic mystery movie, directed by: Ben Affleck.
Gone baby gone is a story of  Amanda. The little girl from Boston, whos been kidnapped by the police Captain, accomplice by his two F.B.I friends, and Lionel amanda' s uncle. It was a set-up kidnapped to save Amanda from bad elements and to give her a better future; also to give her mother (Helena) a moral lesson. But it turned out disastrous. When Patrick (private investigators) discovered that it was a set-up kidnapped, he totally disgree to the idea, while Angie  (his girl friend/private investigator) was really happy to see Amanda living a normal and peaceful life under the guidance of the kidnapper. Since Patrick is an Ethical Absolutism, no nobody could stopped him from revealing the truth to the authority and little Amanda reunited with her mother.

Lionel and his wife loved little Amanda like their own daughter and they cared for her so much. They know that Helena would not do something to better Amanda' s life, and its killing them watching amanda under her mother' s guidance. It' s breaking their heart knowing Helena is addicted to drugs and dealing with dangerous people carrying Amanda with her. Those are some of the reasons why they rather see Amanda taken away from her mother and gave her to the Captain. Thouh the idea was bad, but it could save little Amanda' s life and she will have a better future. The Captain, and Lionel strongly believed in Consequentialism.

Patrick barely knew Amanda, and whats life the little girl is facing. He knew that Helena is a drug user, irresponsible and she is not a role model for her own child. But when she begged him to bring back Amanda to her, Patrick promised her Amanda will be home, because he strongly believed that the daughter belongs to her mother no matter what. So, Patrick called the authority for the truth and He brought Amanda back to her mother.

I would say that he movie has taken both sides, the movie have sufficient evidence and support to justify both sides. Personally, based on the situation and poverty in the story, i will choose for Amanda to stay with the new family. Although it is not the right thing to do, but I want whats good for her and I am aware that she is in good hands.

  1. Richelle’s short essay contains most of the requirements. I really liked how you added Patrick as ethical absolutism while you labeled the Captain, Lionel, and his wife as consequentialism. Although, I don’t think Lionel’s wife Bea would be an consequentialism because she didn’t know anything about the “plan” and how Amanda was sent to the Captain. She was trying her best to find Amanda, that’s why she went to Patrick for getting some help to find Amanda and she called all the newscast people for their help. So she would be somewhere in the middle of consequentialism and ethical absolution. I strongly suggest that you add more people in the category of consequentialism, such as Bressant, Poole, and Angie. I thought that your introduction was really detailed with the summary you gave of the movie “Gone Baby Gone.” I would suggest that you watch your spelling errors and punctuation because in some parts of your short essay it didn't make sense. I kind of disagree with the fact that you said that it was best for Amanda to stay with her new family because that child has get returned to it’s own mother. I mean what if the child grows up and finds out that the family she’s living in is not her biological family. She obviously would feel disappointed and angry for the fact that she was kidnapped from her mother to live with someone else. Also if Lionel really loved his niece he wouldn’t have done all this because he did it for the money. His greed got so many people killed and left so many lives destroyed. You are right with the fact that “the movie has taken both sides, the movie have sufficient evidence and support to justify both sides” because I also agree that Amanda should have stayed with Captain Doyle because he would’ve provided a better life for her. Also, if she lived with Helene who is a drug addict, then Amanda would’ve been the same like Helene.
